Tonari Gumi will be hosting its annual Jazz Night. We are planning an exciting program of jazz music, featuring professional and semi-professional musicians from Canada and Japan. Jazz has been played in Japan for almost 100 years and the Jazz Night will continue in this tradition.
Featured performers will include guitar virtuoso, Yujiro Nakajima; the Ikuko Trio with Wayne Soon (house band for the evening); Return of the Pastafarian and vocalist, Angela Verbrugge.
The second part of the show will feature an all-star band led by bassist Kenn Nakamine. By playing several well-known jazz standards, the band will illustrate what jazz is as a musical form and what to listen to in jazz music.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased directly from Tonari Gumi or on-line via Paypal. All proceeds from the Jazz Night will go to Tonari Gumi’s “Making It A Home Fund” to complete funding of their new facilities. Come and enjoy a memorable evening of top-quality jazz music and help to strengthen the services available to seniors and others needing help within the Japanese Canadian community.
