Letter to the Editor

Of all the people you have interviewed over the years, Hiromi Goto is the one who imporessed me the most! Super-intelligent, insightful, articulate, honest! Thanks for writing it, as I had never heard of Ms. Goto. I realize that I’ve been wasting time fuming over ethnocentric writers like Joy Kogawa and Roy Miki who rely solely on the JC internment for their muse, and falsely depict Japanese-Canadian internees as “traumatized” victims. I see that I have been missing reading exciting new Japanese-Canadian writers like Hiromi Goto –so it’s off to the bookstore I go! I am looking forward to reading a Japanese-Canadian authored book that is sprinkled with “humour and levity”. Ultimately, though, I’m looking forward to reading a book that reaches my mind and heart not only because I am Japanese-Canadian, but because I’m a human being, who thinks and feels as an individual.
