About The Bulletin
The first issue of The Bulletin was published in April 1958 under the editorship of Mickey Tanaka (then Nakashima), a nisei who had returned to the coast in 1950, shortly after war-time restrictions against Japanese Canadians were lifted. The Bulletin initially served as a way of keeping returning Japanese Canadians, particularly the nisei, connected. At the time, as the GVJCCA served as a political organization advocating for the rights of Japanese Canadians, the Bulletin helped disseminate our organization’s political advocacy and activities. In the present, it also celebrates the diversity of our community and explores a variety of topics of interest to the local Nikkei community.
