On Friday May 6th, a Charity Poker Tournament was held in support of Japanese 2011 Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami Victims. Over 80 players attended the Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament at the National Nikkei Heritage Centre. We raised $2,417.33 from the Poker Tournament and $3,081.74 from the Silent Auction and other donations. A total of $5,499.09 was raised and was donated to the Canadian Red Cross – Japan Earthquake / Asia Pacific Tsunami Fund.
The Charity Poker Tournament was a huge success. We had over 20 sponsors and 11 volunteers that ran the event. The format of unlimited re-buy for the first 2 hours was exciting, with players yelling re-buy and raising their hand, after going “All In” and losing. There were numerous re-buys and almost as many top-ups of players wanting to donate to the Canadian Red Cross – Japan Earthquake / Asia Pacific Tsunami Fund. The winners were Andrew Jones, Jose Toku, Herb Lee and Tony Ando, who decided to divide the prize money. It was an enjoyable way to raise awareness of the disaster and funds for those suffering in Japan.
Thank you to the National Nikkei Heritage Centre for providing a beautiful venue for the Event and all the sponsor / donators who provide auction items. We appreciate all of the volunteers who gave their time and energy to making the Charity Poker Tournament a success.
Again, thank you all for your support,
Scott Ando & Ray Soo
