VIFFで大人気の是枝監督、2018年カンヌ国際映画祭の最高賞パルムドールを受賞作「万引き家族」は愛と犯罪、涙、刺激の詰まったほろ苦い物語。少女のゆり（佐々木みゆ）は、虐待を受けている実の家族が良いのか、犯罪者の家族が良いのか？治（リリー・フランキー）と妻の信代（安藤サクラ）が率いる家族の方が、良い選択のように思えるが、それでは物語は終わらない…

4月7日〜９日の３日間、ロイヤル・ウィニペグ・バレエによる「Going Home Star - Truth and Reconciliation」の公演がクイーンエリザベス劇場にて行われる。先住民の人々が家族から引き離され寄宿学校（Residential School）に入りそこで様々な辛い経験をしたという歴史をインスピレーションとして製作がされた。この作品には日本出身のバレエダンサー・三野洋祐さんがチャーリーという寄宿学校の生徒役として出演している。

バンクーバーは、カナダで太鼓が発祥した地であり、現在個性豊かな多くの太鼓グループが存在している。筆者はカナダ発の太鼓グループ、語り太鼓の設立メンバーであり、語り太鼓は北米の太鼓アンサンブル、サンホゼ太鼓やサンフランシスコ太鼓道場をモデルとして始まった。

Book of Love is not like a Harlequin romance novel. Any married couple will tell you that love has its peaks and valleys. Love, like life, is a mystery.
