TSUCHIDA Jin Gen—born April 20, 1936. We announce with sadness in our hearts that Jin passed away on December 21, 2007. Survived by his wife Akemi, son Richard, brother Shin (Michiyo), nephew Daniel, niece Carol (Jonathan). Aside from his work and family his passions were golf and fishing. Jin was a kind and honest man and touched many people with his generosity. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Private Service was held as this was Jin’s wishes. The family greatly appreciates Dr. G. Aronshtom, nurses and staff at Mt. Saint Joseph Hospital for their care and support. Koden gratefully declined.

HORIUCHI It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of James Hajime on December 25, 2007 at the Minoru Residence, Richmond. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Minnie, his sister Nancy Mori of New Denver and brother Ralph (Elizabeth) Horiuchi of Montreal and nephews, Gene Horiuchi, Michael (Corinne) Mori, nieces, Natalie (Al) MacGregor, Sharon Mori and Marcie (Manfred) Fourestier, as well as his many great-nieces and nephews. A private service was held on January 8, 2008 and will be followed by a Celebration of his Life which will be announced at a later date.

KURAMOTO Miyako (Yesaki) February 16, 1919 January 8, 2008 It is with great sadness but with loving memories that we announce the passing of Miyako Kuramoto, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kunji, her sons Isao (Ina) and Tsutomu (Mae), her daughters June and Carol (Alan Sakai), her eight grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her daughter Sumere and son-in-law Ken Nishimura. A memorial service will held at the Steveston Buddhist Temple, 4360 Garry Street, Richmond, BC on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 11:00 am with Rev. M. Kikuchi officiating. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the many nurses, doctors and staff at St. Paul’s Renal Dialysis Unit for their kindness and care over the past three years.

MATSUI Otohiro April 17, 1913 – January 10, 2008 Predeceased by his wife Misayo. Survived by sons, Ken (Cathy), Dennis (Jackie), Satoshi and grandchildren Cole, Kevin and Paula. Private service has been held. He will be missed by family, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of B.C.

UCHIDA, Fudeko (nee Sato)
On January 8, 2008 at home , in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Issaku Uchida. Loving sister of Hisako Kitaguchi in Calgary and the late Ayako, Tokue and Toshiko. Dear aunt of many nieces and nephews. Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Shinji Kawano of the Toronto Japanese United Church on January 14, 2008.

NAKAMURA Edward Toshio February 16, 1925 – January 19, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Edward Toshio Nakamura on Saturday January 19, 2008 with his children Pat (John), Larry,Leslie (Bruce) by his side. Born in Vancouver, BC on February 16, 1925, Ed was just shy of his 83rd birthday. Ed is predeceased by Ruth, his beloved wife of 51 years. He is survived by his dear sister Jeanne Kubota (Harry), brothers-in-law Stewart, Robin (Yaeko) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed worked for Canada Post for over 21 years, became a successful businessman, and was also a professionally trained gardener and landscaper. Dad and Mom loved traveling the world together. His love of photography and family movies has provided us cherished memories. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Flowers and Koden gratefully declined. Viewing times held 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Friday January 25, 2008 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Vancouver Japanese United Church, 4010 Victoria Drive (23rd & Victoria), Saturday January 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn, 3789 Royal Oak in Burnaby at 1:00 PM.

HAMADA Mr. Hisao. Passed away peacefully at Richmond Hospital on Monday, January 15, 2008 at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by his wife Tazuko, son Larry and a brother Reiji. Survived by 2 daughters and 1 son, Eileen (Patrick) Ryan-Lewis, Donald Hamada and Grace Hamada (Michael Walker); 1 grandson Kenji Walker, and many dear relatives. Private cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond. Koden and flowers gratefully declined.

SAYLE KAZUKO December 28, 1940 January 17, 2008 Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital. Remembered by her loving husband George of 48 years, sons Robert (Derry), Dave (Kim) and Chris. Sisters Noriko and Kuniko, 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephew. Kuzi loved life, cooking, playing cards, drinking coffee, looking after George and her children. Her parting promise was that she would look after her family and friends from heaven. She was a loving wife and mother to her husband and three sons. Her warm heart, smile and laughter will be missed by everyone she came in contact with. A celebration of Kuzi’s life will be held at North Lonsdale United Church, January 27, 2008 at 3pm, viewing available at 2:30pm. 3380 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or charity of your choice. Mom, we love you and will always miss you

 

YAMAMOTO Harry, born in Haney, BC December 8, 1935 passed away January 18, 2008 in Calgary, AB. Harry leaves behind loving partner Marian (Middleton), children Bruce, Paul (Marzena), Patti (Tom) and Vicki (Joe) and grandchildren Zoe?, Sam and Jessica. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Yosh) and Helen Yamamoto. Harry was predeceased by his brothers Mas and Tats. He will be missed.

TAMEMOTO Matsue—Born July 5, 1912 and passed away peacefully January 23, 2008 at St. Vincent’s Langara Care Home with the family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Tetsuo, sisters Sumiko, Ayako, Eiko, and brother Roy. She is survived by daughters Miki (David) Lowe, Connie (Don) Mayede; and grandchildren Michael, Andrea (Bruno), Tracey (Chris), and John Paul; great-granddaughters Brianna and Bethany. Also survived by sisters Yoshiko Nakatsu and Jitsue Seko (Ken Ishii) and sisters-in-law Fuki Tamemoto of Richmond, Fumiye Hirota of Winnipeg and Tokiko (Fumi) Yamada of Winnipeg. Memorial Service to take place in the chapel of Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond on Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Koden and flowers gratefully declined. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent’s Langara Care Home for their loving care extended to our mother during her 9 years in residence, with special acknowledgement to the Cedar staff and to Edith, Lorna and Belinda, her private aids.
