Sesame Seed Chicken

With the warm weather coming, these two appetizers may appeal to you.

SESAME SEED CHICKEN

2 to 3 pounds chicken drumettes

oil for deep frying

Marinade:

4 tbsp flour

8 tbsp cornstarch

4 tbsp sugar

1-1/2 tsp salt

5 tbsp soy sauce

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 stalk green onion, chopped

2 tbsp sesame seeds

Mix marinade ingredients until well blended. Marinate chicken overnight in refrigerator, stirring occasionally. Heat oil and deep-fry chicken. Drain on paper towels.

BARBECUE STICKS

2 pounds boneless crossrib roast, cut into 1-4-inch slices (ask butcher to do this)

30 bamboo skewers (8 inches long), soaked in water

Marinade:

1 cup soy sauce

3/4 cup sugar

1/8 cup water

1/2 inch fresh ginger, grated

1 clove garlic, crushed

Combine marinade ingredients. Cut meat slices into strips about 1 inch wide. Soak in marinade for about 30 minutes. String strips onto skewers in an undulating style. Grill on hibachi, barbecue, or broil in oven.

5 TOP TIPS FOR GRILLING STEAK

Achieve the best-grilled steak ever with these must-have tips:

1.Only turn steak once during cooking. Constant flipping prevents the outside from being seared.

2.Use the right temperature. Cooking steal at too high a temperature can cause the outside to char before the inside reaches the proper doneness.

3.Salt your steak after grilling; as salt draws out the moisture and will prevent the steak from browning.

4.Don’t use a fork; piercing the meat will release the delicious juices. Use long handled tongs or spatula to move food around the grill.

5.Leave the thin layer of fat on your steak while grilling to lock in the flavourful juices.

VANILLA SQUARES 9X13 PAN

This is my oldest sister’s (Mitsi, age 91) favourite recipe. It is easy, and deliciously appealing!

Whole graham wafers on the bottom of pan

1 pkg vanilla pudding cooked, let cool (6 serving size-mix as directed)

Layer of cool whip (16 oz)

Layer of  graham wafers on top

Top with layer of thin icing sugar glaze on wafers. Add a line on chocolate syrup about 11/2 “ apart across wafers (sideways).  Run a knife length-way about 2” apart which makes a “V” design or pattern. Refrigerate overnight.

Happy Father’s Day!
