EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION


The National Association of Japanese Canadians is a national organization with a mandate to “promote and develop a strong Japanese Canadian identity thereby strengthening local communities and the national organization, and to strive for equal rights and liberties for all people, particularly racial and ethnic minorities”.

We are looking for a dynamic and focused individual who will use their exceptional leadership skills to advance the vision, goals and objectives of the NAJC.  You will create a 3 to 5 year strategic plan for the organization by collaborating with relevant stakeholders. You will work to raise the profile of the NAJC and increase the engagement of members and member organizations.  In addition, you will provide oversight for the day-to-day management of the national office with the assistance of a part time National Administrator.

Reporting to the President of the National Executive Board, this is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making connections and creating a stronger sense of community amongst individuals of Japanese decent and other visible minorities whose voices struggle to be heard.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Provide leadership with the NEB and stakeholders in developing a vision and strategic plan as well as representing and acting as a spokesperson for the NAJC at community events
  • Develop an operational plan that work towards a strategic direction
  • Ensure that the day-to-day operation of the organization meets the expectations of NEB and membership including policies, website, and supporting materials
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of NAJC programs and services and special projects
  • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor cash flow of the organization
  • Communicate and establish good working relationships with member organizations, community groups, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the NAJC
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as working with teams and committees
  • University degree in social, human, political or management sciences preferred with 5 years working at a Senior Executive level position as well as experience with external and internal organizational stakeholders; not for profit or Board experience an asset

This position is approximately 20 hours per week, 5 days a week with some weekend meetings.  It is a 1 year contract.
