Momiji prepares to celebrate!

Toronto’s Momiji Health Care Society is celebrating two milestones this year: 35th year of excellence in service to seniors and the 20th anniversary of the opening of the award-winning Momiji Seniors Centre.
A gala celebration will be held on Saturday, November 17 at the Momiji Seniors Centre and the society is inviting the many people who have been associated with Momiji over the years to join them for a special evening of dinner and entertainment. On the menu are the Nagata Shachu taiko drummers, a silent auction and other festive activities. Proceeds from the evening will support Momiji’s continued important work.

“We will be honouring the Nisei Women’s Club and other pioneers of our volunteer community, whose projects initiated the founding of Momiji Health Care Society. It will be an evening to enjoy with friends and family as we recognize our many accomplishments and share our future vision,” says Pam Waintraub, Chair of the Momiji Health Care Society Board.

The Momiji Health Care Society is a not-for-profit organization that was founded to offer a culturally and linguistically sensitive environment to seniors of Japanese Canadian heritage. It is perhaps best known for the Momiji Seniors Centre which, through the support of the community, opened its 133 apartments in 1992. It has grown to offer assisted living and a wide range of programs to a broad constituency. Much more than a building, Momiji is a philosophy of care and a promise to serve the needs of seniors and their families by providing innovative and sustainable alternatives for healthy, active living. Programs include outreach to long term care facilities, friendly visiting and congregate dining with a Japanese flavour; transportation services; an active Elderly Persons Centre; and an expanding offering of leisure and educational courses from conversational Japanese to zumba, yoga and bridge for its extended community.
