New Horizons Grant

The GVJCCA was successful in obtaining a federal New Horizons grant to produce a book which documents stories of the Internment as told by participating story tellers at the Honouring our People – Stories of the Internment conference which took place at the Nikkei Centre from September 25 to 27, 2009.  This book project will transcribe the stories of participating and consenting story teller conference participants, but as well, will include the internment stories of other consenting community elders who live in BC.

Currently members of this GVJCCA project steering committee are assuming responsibility to develop and plan the book’s content, format and design, as well as the workplan to successfully complete this project by the end of 2010.

We wish to thank community members again for consenting to share their stories, memories and feedback during the Honouring our People conference. Community members who shared their stories during the conference may be contacted over the next few months to seek their support and approval regarding reproduction of their story in book form.

If there are any questions or concerns about this,
please contact the GVJCCA at 604 777 5222.
